The
Dominica Cadet Corps is a national voluntary youth organisation.
It
is sponsored by the Government of Dominica through the Ministry of
Education, Youth Affairs and Sports.
This aim
and objectives of the program
will be achieved through training sessions conducted throughout the
school year. Students of the schools participating in the programme will
be exposed to the following syllabus of activities:

Drill: To enable an individual or a
group of persons to function in a uniformed and
disciplined
manner
Duke of Edinburgh Award:
Offering practical, cultural and adventurous activities, under four categories of (1)
skills (2) community service (3) physical achievement and (4)
expeditions
First Aid: The
skills and techniques practiced will enable participants to effectively manage emergencies including the
performance
of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until appropriate medical
services arrives
Water safety:
To teach participants the proper use of water safety clothing and gear,
respect for
the sea, operations of small water craft, among other skills
Fire Safety:
To be aware of fire prevention methods and to be capable of rendering
assistance
in fire emergencies
Communications:
To expose Cadets to the
use
of effective communications methods, including Amateur Radio, public
speaking, the receipt and transfer of messages etc
Music: To
provide the forum for interested persons to perform in a marching band
and to
develop the appreciation for music
Basic technical skills
: To teach the basic principles of diagnosis and solutions to common
automobile problems, home appliances and small machinery.
Local and overseas camps:
To develop basic and advanced camping skills as well as
the
interpersonal skills of individuals through the interaction with others
in a non-domestic environment.
Education for life:
To provide the forum for discussions on matters relating to the total
mental and physical development of the individual, drug prevention and
family life education.
